lying کا بنیادی لفظ ہے lye ۔ یہ ایک verb ہے ۔ اس کے آگے “ing” کا اضافہ کرنے سے یہ present participle میں تبدیل ہو جاتا ہے اور continuous tense کے جملے بنانے میں استعمال ہوتا ہے۔ lye دو (2) بنیادی معنوں میں استعمال ہوتا ہے۔ اس کے ایک معنی ہیں ’’پڑا ہونا یا لیٹا ہونا‘‘ اور دوسرے معنی ہیں ’’جھوٹ بولنا‘‘۔lying کا adjective کے طور پر بھی استعمال ہوتا ہے جب یہ کسی noun سے پہلے لگا ہوتا ہے۔
