Preposition کیا ہے؟
ایسے الفاظ جو کسی noun یا pronoun (یا ایسا عنصر جو noun کے طور پر کام کر رہا ہو) کا باقی جملے سے تعلق بتائیں، Preposition کہلاتے ہیں۔ وہ noun یا pronoun جس سے preposition جڑا ہو، object of the preposition کہلاتا ہے۔ کچھ عام preposition نیچے درج ہیں:-
in, on, to, for, of, with, from, at, by, about, as, into, through, after, over, under, beneath, between, against, during, before, under, around, among, ……. اور بہت سارے
Object of the preposition ایک noun یا pronoun یا phrase ہوتا ہے. Preposition عام طور پر object کے فوری پہلے لگتا ہے۔ نیچے دی ہوئی مثالوں میں بولڈ الفاظ preposition اور انڈر لائن الفاظ object ہیں؛-

Preposition کسی gerund جو object کے طور پر استعمال ہو رہا ہو، کے ساتھ بھی لگ سکتا ہے:-

ایک جملے میں ایک سے زیادہ preposition ہو سکتے ہیں، جیسے:-
Neelam lives near the school in a house with a big garden.
.He is going to Europe by PIA on Monday
اگر کوئی preposition کسی clause کا آغاز کرے تو پھر یہ لفظ conjunction بن جاتا ہے اور پھر یہ preposition نہیں رہتا ہے:-
The guests reached before the hosts were ready.

Preposition of Time کچھ واقع ہونے کے وقت اور عرصے (when and how long) کے بارے میں بتاتا ہے۔ at, in اور onتین بہت زیادہ استعمال ہونے والے preposition ہیں۔ کچھ preposition of time اور مثالیں نیچے درج ہیں:-
at, in, on, for, during, since, by, until, before, after, to, past
.I will meet you at 5 o’clock
.He will resume school in August
.This issue will be raised during today’s session
She has to reach not later than a quarter past six.

Preposition of Place کسی چیز کےہونے کی جگہ (where) کی طرف اشارہ کرتے ہیں۔ نیچے کچھ prepositions of place اور مثالیں درج ہیں:-
at, in, on, by, near, close to, next to, beside, between, behind, in front of, above, below
.He will stay at Hotel Sheraton
.Her house is located next to the park
.My office is in front of Capri cinema
.His bag was found below the table
Preposition of Direction or Movement
کسی چیز کی سمت یا حرکت کی طرف اشارہ کرنے والے الفاظ Prepositions of Direction or Movement کہلاتے ہیں۔کچھ ایسے prepositions اور ان کی مثالیں نیچے درج ہیں:-
to, from, over, above, under, beneath, along, around, across, through, into, out of, away from, onto, off, up, down
.Waseem is going to Germany
Emirates operates flights directly

Preposition of Agency کسی شخص یا چیز کے بارے میں بتاتے ہیں جو کسی چیز کے ہونے کا باعث ہوں۔ عام طور پر یہ passive voice جملوں میں استعمال ہوتے ہیں:-
.The airport was built by a foreign company
.Her heart is filled with emotion
Preposition of Instrument or Device
یہ preposition مشینوں، ڈوائسز اور ٹیکنولوجی کو بیان کرنےکےلیے استعمال ہوتے ہیں۔ b y, with اور on اس کیٹیگری میں بھی آتے ہیں:-

Ahmed opened the locked door with an old key.

Prepositions of reason or purpose
کسی چیز کے ہونے کی وجہ prepositions of reason or purpose کے ذریعے بیان کی جاتی ہے۔ عام طور پر through, because of, on account of اور from جیسے preposition اس سلسلے میں استعمال ہوتے ہیں:-
Everything Ahmed did was for Saqlain
Because of the delay, I was late to the party
Offices were closed on account of public holiday

Preposition of Connection جملے میں ملکیت، تعلق اور وابستگی ظاہر کرنے کے لیے استعمال ہوتے ہیں۔ of کو ملکیت، to کو relationship, اور with کو accompaniment کےلیے استعمال کیا جا تا ہے:-

Preposition of Origin
جب ہم کسی شخص یا چیز کی شہریت، قومیت، زبان یا جگہ کے بارے میں بات کرتے ہیں تو زیادہ تر from اور کبھی کبھی to کا استعمال کرتے ہیں:-
.Recently I met a journalist from India
Ahmed is from Pakistan originally but for many years is now living in London.
.Our new neighbor is of Indian origin
Preposition کیسے پہچانیں؟
انگریزی میں بہت سے الفاظ جنہیں ہم preposition کے لیے استعمال کرتے ہیں، وہ parts of speech کے دوسرے حصوں میں بھی استعمال ہوتے ہیں، خاص کر adverb کے طور پر۔
